Image Format Converter (incl. HEIC to JPG)

Convert an image between PNG, JPEG, and WebP β€” including HEIC/HEIF, the format iPhones save photos in by default, which most websites and non-Apple software can't open directly. Format is auto-detected from the file, falling back to its extension since HEIC's MIME type is often unreliable. A HEIC source is decoded first, then converted to whichever format you pick. Runs entirely client-side β€” nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

This tool converts an image between PNG, JPEG, and WebP, and also handles HEIC/HEIF β€” the format iPhones save photos in by default, which most websites, forms, and non-Apple software still can't open directly, making "convert HEIC to JPG" one of the most common image conversion needs there is. Browsers generally can't decode HEIC on their own, so this uses a dedicated HEIC decoding library first, then hands the result through the same conversion path as any other format. Format is detected from the file's actual content type where possible, falling back to its file extension β€” which matters in practice, since HEIC files often report an empty or generic MIME type depending on the browser and OS. It runs entirely client-side β€” nothing you upload is ever sent anywhere, which matters more for HEIC conversion than most tools, since it's usually personal photos going through it.

What you can do

  • Convert between PNG, JPEG, and WebP
  • Also converts HEIC/HEIF (the format iPhones save photos in) to any of those three
  • Format is auto-detected from the file, even when HEIC's MIME type is unreliable
  • Nothing is uploaded β€” conversion happens entirely in your browser

How to use

Step 1

Upload an image

Its format is detected automatically, including HEIC photos from an iPhone.

Step 2

Pick the output format

PNG, JPEG, or WebP.

Step 3

Convert and download

Preview the result before saving it.

Example

An iPhone photo (IMG_1234.HEIC):

Convert to

JPEG

produces a standard .jpg that opens anywhere β€” most websites and older software can't open HEIC files directly.

How your data is handled

This tool is labeled 🟒 Browser: your image is decoded and converted directly in your browser β€” nothing is uploaded to a server, and nothing about it is retained once you leave the page.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I convert HEIC directly to WebP?+

It's actually a two-step process handled automatically: the HEIC decoder library only outputs JPEG, so a HEIC source is first decoded to JPEG, then that result is re-encoded to whatever format you actually picked (including WebP) β€” you don't need to do this in two separate passes yourself.

Why can't I preview my HEIC file before converting?+

Browsers generally can't display HEIC images directly (the same reason conversion is needed in the first place), so there's nothing to preview until after it's been decoded β€” convert it first, then the result previews normally.

Which format should I pick?+

JPEG for photos where small file size matters and transparency isn't needed; PNG for images with transparency or sharp edges (screenshots, logos, graphics) where lossless quality matters; WebP for a modern format that generally beats both at the same visual quality, if whatever you're using it for supports it.

Does converting reduce image quality?+

Converting to JPEG or WebP applies their normal lossy compression (at a high quality setting), the same as any JPEG/WebP export. Converting to PNG is lossless β€” no quality is lost, though a photo re-encoded as PNG will usually be considerably larger than the same photo as JPEG.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?+

No β€” it's decoded and converted directly in your browser. Nothing here ever leaves your device, including HEIC photos processed through the decoding step.
