Scatter Plot Generator

Upload a CSV or paste it directly to plot two numeric columns against each other โ€” with the Pearson correlation coefficient and an ordinary least-squares trend line computed automatically alongside the points, not as an extra step. Optionally label points from a third column. Rows missing a numeric value in either column are skipped. Download the chart as a PNG. Runs entirely client-side using Recharts โ€” nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

This tool plots two numeric columns against each other and, unlike a general-purpose chart generator, always computes the statistics that make a scatter plot useful for analysis: the Pearson correlation coefficient (r, from -1 to 1, measuring how strongly the two variables move together linearly) and an ordinary least-squares trend line (y = mx + b, the best-fit straight line through the points). Only rows where both the X and Y columns have a numeric value are plotted โ€” a row missing either is skipped rather than plotted as zero. r close to ยฑ1 means a strong linear relationship; close to 0 means little to none โ€” though correlation, as always, doesn't imply causation. It runs entirely client-side using Recharts โ€” nothing you upload or paste is ever sent anywhere.

What you can do

  • Plot any two numeric columns against each other, with optional point labels
  • Pearson correlation coefficient and a linear trend line, computed automatically
  • Upload a .csv file, or paste CSV directly
  • Download the chart as a PNG
  • Nothing is uploaded โ€” everything runs locally in your browser

How to use

Step 1

Add your CSV

Upload a .csv file, or paste it directly.

Step 2

Pick X and Y columns

Only genuinely numeric columns are offered. Optionally pick a label column to identify points.

Step 3

Read the correlation and trend line

Both are computed the moment you pick your columns โ€” no extra step.

Example

This CSV:

CSV

hours_studied,exam_score
1,52
5,74
10,95

plots hours_studied against exam_score with a strong positive correlation and an upward-sloping trend line โ€” more study hours associated with a higher score.

How your data is handled

This tool is labeled ๐ŸŸข Browser: your CSV is parsed and plotted directly in your browser using the Recharts library โ€” nothing is uploaded to a server, and nothing about it is retained once you leave the page.

Frequently asked questions

What does the correlation coefficient (r) actually mean?+

It measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between the two columns, from -1 (perfect negative โ€” as one goes up, the other goes down exactly proportionally) through 0 (no linear relationship) to +1 (perfect positive). It only captures linear relationships โ€” two variables can be strongly related in a curved, non-linear way and still show a low r.

Does a strong correlation mean one column causes the other?+

No โ€” correlation measures how two variables move together, not why. Two variables can be strongly correlated because of a shared underlying cause, coincidence in a small sample, or genuine causation, and this tool can't distinguish between those.

How is the trend line calculated?+

Ordinary least-squares linear regression โ€” the straight line that minimizes the sum of squared vertical distances from every point to the line. It's the same standard method spreadsheet software uses for a linear trendline.

Why are only some columns available to pick from?+

Only columns where every non-empty value parses as a number are offered for X and Y โ€” a column with even one text value isn't treated as numeric.

Is my CSV uploaded anywhere?+

No โ€” whether uploaded as a file or pasted, your CSV is parsed and plotted directly in your browser. Nothing here ever leaves your device.
