PDF Redactor

Draw redaction boxes directly on rendered pages, then apply them: every page with a box is rendered to an image with the redaction baked into the pixels, and the original text/vector content on that page is discarded entirely — not just visually covered, genuinely unrecoverable. Pages with no redactions stay untouched, full quality, with selectable text intact. Runs entirely client-side — nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

This tool performs genuine redaction, not a cosmetic black box. A common mistake other tools make is drawing an opaque rectangle on top of existing PDF content while leaving the real text underneath fully intact — select-all and paste, or even just opening the PDF in a different viewer, can reveal what's "hidden" underneath. This tool instead renders each page you mark to an image, bakes your redaction boxes directly into that image's pixels, and rebuilds the page from the flattened image — there is no text layer or vector content left on that page to recover, because it's genuinely gone. Pages you don't mark are left completely untouched, copied at the object level with their original quality and selectable text intact, so redacting one page doesn't degrade the rest of the document. It runs entirely client-side — nothing you upload is ever sent anywhere, which matters more here than almost any other tool on this site given what redaction is typically used for.

What you can do

  • Draw redaction boxes directly on rendered pages by clicking and dragging
  • True redaction: covered pages are permanently flattened to an image, not just painted over
  • Pages with no redactions stay full quality, with selectable text intact
  • Nothing is uploaded — redaction happens entirely in your browser

How to use

Step 1

Upload a PDF and draw boxes

Click and drag over anything that needs to be permanently hidden. Click a box to remove it before applying.

Step 2

Apply redactions

Every page with at least one box is rasterized with the boxes baked in — the underlying content is destroyed, not covered.

Step 3

Download the result

Redacted pages are flattened images; untouched pages keep their original quality.

Example

A document with an account number on page 2:

Action

Draw a box over the account number on page 2, apply

produces a PDF where page 2 is a flattened image with the account number genuinely destroyed underneath the black box, while every other page stays exactly as it was — full quality, fully selectable text.

How your data is handled

This tool is labeled 🟢 Browser: your PDF is rendered, redacted, and rebuilt entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server, and nothing about it is retained once you leave the page. This matters especially here, since redaction is usually used on exactly the kind of sensitive content you don't want touching a server at all.

Frequently asked questions

Is this actually secure, or just a visual black box?+

It's genuine redaction — the page you mark is rendered to a flattened image with the redaction box baked directly into the pixels, and the original text/vector content on that page is discarded entirely. There is nothing left to select, copy, or extract from underneath the black box on a redacted page.

Does redacting one page affect the quality of the rest of the document?+

No — only pages you actually draw a box on are flattened to an image. Every other page is copied at the object level, unchanged, keeping its original quality and selectable text.

Can I undo a redaction box before applying?+

Yes — click any drawn box to remove it. Nothing is permanent until you click "Apply redactions and download".

Will the redacted page's text still be searchable?+

No — since the page becomes a flattened image, none of its content (redacted or not) has a text layer anymore. That's the necessary tradeoff for the redacted content to be genuinely unrecoverable rather than just visually hidden.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?+

No — it's rendered, redacted, and rebuilt entirely in your browser. Nothing here ever leaves your device.
